Prof. Sven Travis

Sven Travis is an Associate Professor of Computational Media at Parsons School of Design. He was founding (now former) Dean of the School of Art, Media, and Technology at Parsons. He has taught and administered at Parsons for almost thirty years as faculty within Parsons Product Design Department (Textile Design and Computer Graphics), as Parsons Director of Advanced Computing, as Chair of Parsons Digital Design Department (which he founded), as Director of Parsons Center for New Design (which he co-founded), and as New School Associate Provost for Technology R&D. Travis currently teaches and undertakes research within Parsons Design+Technology programs, which he founded. He actively undertakes projects and research in collaboration with a variety of international partners, including the “Creativity and AI Lab” (创造力与人工 智能实验室: at Sichuan Fine Arts Institute in Chongqing, China), the “Beijing Yacht Club” (北京游艇俱乐部: immersive installations and artificial intelligence, in Beijing), and the “Mighty Spicy Collective” (open source educational technology, in NYC). Travis is founding partner of The Fred Group (digitally generated textile printing and design), and principal of Crazy Baldhead (neural network and fuzzy logic programming applied to interactive media).
 

Travis was raised in Wisconsin, USA and is a lifelong fan of the Green Bay Packers football team. He was educated at the Rhode Island School of Design (photography) and New York Polytechnic University (computer science). He has lived in Brooklyn, New York for almost 40 years. He is married with two children, one cat, and one dog. He skis in the winter, rides bikes all year long, loves to garden, and has a massive collection of cacti.
